Q.How do I make changes to my profile once listed?
A.
We’re pleased to announce that we have launched a new facility for advisors to log in and make edits directly to their own profiles. The log in link appears in the left bar below the date. If you never received your Username and Password please send us an email from the email address listed on your profile and we will provide you with them. Once you’ve logged in you can change your password at any time. Please email us if there are any problems.

Q.How can I improve the responses from my listing?
A. Our observations have shown that there are several ways you can boost your traffic.

  • PROVIDE A PHOTO. Our statistics show us that advisors with photos definitely get more responses.
  • Provide an "Area of Specialisation". Even if you are a General Practitioner select an area where you would most like to receive new clients. Potential clients to the site take a lot of notice of your area of specialisation.
  • Write an article related to financial advising and send it to us (or send an article you authored previously). We have a special article section that attracts visitors in its own right. Every article you author will link back to your profile page. Your individual profile page will also link to your articles, blostering your professionalism.
  • Contact clients promptly, especially when we send specific referrals that we have received directly through to you from our side.
  • Are your details up to date? FSP license number? Indemnity insurance? New institutions you may be supporting?
  • Revisit your listing. Can the wording be improved? Is there not some other valuable information that you could provide?

Finally, bear in mind that our low pricing ensures that you only require one closed lead in any 12 month period to more than cover your costs. As our site is in a rapid growth phase, reponses will naturally increase as time goes on. As in all investments: LOOK LONG TERM.

Q. Won't certain advisors always appear at the top of the list on the initial search results page?
A. No, we have an algorithm in place which orders the list in a totally random fashion so that every advisor has the chance to be at the top of the list.

 

Q. When the site has grows - won't my listing get lost amidst the crowds?
A. We aim to limit the number of advisors that appear on the initial search results page. This will be monitored on an ongoing basis and achieved through the application of a series of progressive filters. We have specifically not broken the dial code area in the main search into suburbs, as we do not believe that choosing the broker down the road is necessarily the best way to find the most suitable advisor. Bear in mind too, that in a traditional directory where all that is supplied is a name and number, a large selection of advisors is much more of a problem. Q. Our firm employs several advisors - how do we list?
A. We have tried to give this website a very personalised flavour. People want to deal with people, not corporations. It is our unique blend of the impersonal interface of the internet with the highly personalised advisor profiles that has attributed to our success. Every advisor is therefore listed individually. However, the "employer" field for all your advisors will contain your company name and if you have a website there will be a link to it from every employee. We do offer group discounts though, so contact us for a detailed quote (info@findanadvisor.co.za). Bear in mind too that as searches go by advisors, the more advisors - the more exposure. Alternatively you may decide to list only one or two of your key people.

Q. Why am I getting contacted by product vendors and other unsolicited parties through my website listing?
A. We have received feedback from some advisors who have been approached by financial product vendors who obtained their details from FindanAdvisor. A few things we need to stress:

  • We are often approached by companies that request lists of our advisors. Please rest assured that we never have and never will give these out, regardless of fees offered.
  • Our website is structured in such a way that harvesting mass contact details is not easy. Many online directories list contact details for their listed members altogether on one page (to the great pleasure of third party marketers). With ours, advisor contact details are only available by clicking through to each individual page – a laborious task for unwanted sales-people.
  • Our continual marketing efforts are resulting in more and more market penetration and it is unfortunately an inevitable result that other parties are going to use the directory. We can’t stop this. The same happens with the yellow pages.
  • Don't forget too that our directory is not the only place where your email address can be found. Email lists often leak out from the very institutions with whom you do business. In fact, in some instance we've approached companies who we have suspected of sending unsolicited mail to our listed advisors, only to be shown proof that the particular email addresses were gotten from other sources.

    A little while ago we sent a newsletter out saying that by default all cell phone numbers would now be visible on each advisor's page, and that if you wanted this hidden to let us know. Please, if you are getting unwanted calls on your cell, send us an email and we’ll hide it straight away.

    Having said the above we would encourage you to email us about any unwanted approaches. It is useful for us to know if they are coming via phone or email, and where from.
