Were you always planning to be a Financial Advisor and why?

Not at all. Life just happened and by pure luck, I found my passion, which is helping clients to plan for the "what if" scenario.

 

When meeting with clients do they mostly come to your own premises or do you mostly go their theirs?

I mostly go to my clients, As with the rest of the world, online is now the new normal

 

What is your preferred mode of communication with your clients?

Face to Face, Via an online platform

 

Have you ever done an online video call with a client?

Yes

 

What do you love most about being a financial advisor

Being able to show clients where they stand financially and getting that financial plan in place. There is nothing better than when a client thanks you for giving them the insight and the plan to secure their future.

 

Would you recommend becoming a financial advisor as a career for school-leavers, and why?

Absoutely. It is extremely hard work to build up your practice, however, the rewards are worth all the long hours and commitment. We lift ourselves by lifting others.

 

What qualities should South Africans be looking for in their financial advisor?

Honesty and a talent to relate to their clients

 

What is the biggest challenge facing financial advisors today?

Every day is a challenge, so I choose not to focus on that and just try and find solutions.

 

What aspects of financial advising do you focus on most?

A holistic financial plan, and ensuring client's incomes are protected.

 

Describe your average client:

It ranges, however, I have noticed a rise in single mothers seeking to secure their families future.

 

How far away from your premises is your furthest client?

1000km

 

From your financial advising experience, if you could cite one of the biggest reasons financial goals, what would it be?

South Africans have a tendency to think that "It will never happen to me" and "I have enough for my retirement". The truth is, you probably don't and by hiding from it, or not having a financial needs analysis done for yourself, you are letting yourself and your family down.

 

Do you think the coming wave of automation in the next few years will steal some financial advisor jobs and why/why not?
